Irigy Hónaljmirigy
Irigy Hónaljmirigy (IHM) is a Hungarian comedy music group consisting of eight members. The band solely performs parodical renditions of other musical performers usually spoofing their style, image and music both visually and in lyrics.
The band was formed in 1990 as a one-time parody number at a friend's New Years' Eve party. The show was a big success and they were invited to play gigs at other parties and at pubs. In a few years they did smaller concerts to a wider audience. In 1993 they made their first demo tape and in 1994 they released their first album called Fetrengés. It was followed by a number of albums in the 1990s which ejected the band into nation-wide fame.
The group's popularity arise in 2000 when they began their own television programme called "Irigy Hónaljmirigy Show" which continues to air to this date. The show - aired with changing regularity - consists of the bandmembers playing several roles often spoofing an aspect of life (the military, high school), a specific movie/TV show (Star Wars, Harry Potter), era (1960s, the disco era) or genre (fairy tale, science fiction). Their New Year's Eve show usually spoofs the actual year's television programmes.
The show usually gets high ratings and is popular among viewers. Although one of the episodes (Bazi nagy roma lagzi) spawned controversy as it was blamed to be portraying the roma minority in a negative way.
Today Irigy Hónaljmirigy is a widely known and successful group often giving huge concerts and releasing popular albums.
